Sister, I fully remembered growing up in Half-die, the seasonal arrival and
departure of the Almudu's hosted by the late Alhagi Girigara Njie, by 'Park
Bu Ndow.' As youngsters, we used to engage in hit and run fights with the
Almudus, since these brothers knew how to knock you out with their
charity-pots which could turn out to be the deadliest weapon. After a while
we began to appreciate each other and organize night time wrestling matches
which these brothers would win 90% of the time. As they go around house to
house begging, we came to know them by name and appreciated each other. Upon
departure date, our parents would donate some of our clothing to these
brothers, with the prayer and hopefulness that, many new ones will be
returned. I could fully remember, the 'Sering' with his whip lashing at these
brothers, as they head toward the ferry crossing to Barra into Senegal and
the reluctance shown at enduring the dreadful trip back to Guinea and beyond.
Sometimes, I wonder, what ever happened to the brothers.
