Angry muslim congregation walked out of the Mamar Ghadaffi mosques which was
inargurated today in SerreKunda, in protest of president Jammeh's late
arrival at the mosque inarguration. Reliable sources say the mosque, which
was supposed to be officially inargurated by the Libyan delegation who
attended the July 22nd revolution celebrations was opned ten minutes before
3 oclock local time. It was scheduled to be opened at elevn clock in the
morning, but later delayed to enable the Kanilai born president to witness
the opening cerremony.
Muslims thronged the mosque as early as ten oclock. Those who could not
bear the burning sun walked out in protest. Sources say even though, it was
time for the usual Friday prayers, a member of the Libyan delegation who
presided the opening cerremony, kept on preaching. Tempers went high, as
thousands of muslims walked out of the mosque grumbling. My sources told me
that the muslim congregation wandered whether those assigned to preside over
the mosque opening were concerned about set for Friday prayers.
Jammeh arrived before 3 oclock, but prayers never went ahead. many people
could not attend the opening as the mosque was filled to capacity. Jammeh's
guards could be seen in the area.
