Takk så mye Tejan.

I have returned from my trip to The Gambia, and I regret very much that I
did not have the time to visit you. One week is too short when you want to
visit friends and family after three years. As far as tourism in the country
is concerned I must admit that my trip this time made me a bit worried. I
have concentrated my work to the Cape Point area, and the changes there are
somewhat shocking. Not only is the physical environment changed - some
placec disappeared, but I could also notice a change in people. With both
Mariatou Beach and former Sunwing closed Cape Point Hotel is the only hotel
running down there. The consequences for the people engaged in the
touristmarked and other tourist-related activities are obviously huge. It
also made me sad to se that Vingreiser still have the same policy towards
the local population - scaring the tourists away unnesseceraly. On my trip
this time I came with a norwegian fried who has never been to The Gambia
before and I tried to take her around as much as possible to see the "real"
Gambia, not Vingreiser's version. Tejan, I really would like to come back to
The Gambia and do something on the situation in the tourissector today -
maybe a film. In that connection I would be pleased if you would be willing
to help me out. You have knowledge on the subject way beyond mine, and your
words would have strength to catch peoples aweareness. How do you feel about
this? Would you be interested in contributing to enlighten the Scandinavian
audience on both the situation in the chartertourissector in The Gambia
today (what benefits have the Gambian people had after thirthy years of
chartertourism?), and on the alternative ways to be a tourist in The Gambia
today (here I am thinking about introducing the different enterprises in
ASSET).

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hilsen Elin

PS: Do you prefer if I write in Norwegian or English?
