      FORMER NAWEC BOSS REPENTS               Written by LaminM Dibba        Thursday, 21 December 2006       Abdou Jobe, the former Managing Director of The National Water and Electricity Company, Nawec, who was sacked mid this year and arraigned before the courts for economic crimes, has regretfully acknowledged his faults and offence against the state and the President.
  At a solem occasion yesterday, at the Office of the President, State House. Mr Jobe handed over cola nut to President Jammeh and apologises for his wrongful action and vowed never to repeat it again. 
  Mr Jobe was accompanied to the State House by the Imam Ratib of Banjul, Alhaji Cherno Kah, the President of the Supreme Islamic Council, Alhaji Banding Drammeh and Alhaji Mansour Njie, a veteran broadcaster with GRTS and his Stepmother.
  
  Accepting Mr Jobe’s apology, President Jammeh, revealed that he had warned Mr Jobe “to clean up the mess” in Nawec,but he failed to do it. The President then said there was no other option but to remove him from office. He dialated his acquaintance with the Nawec boss as far back at their school days at The Gambia High School.
  
  The Gambian leader warned that public officials who decide to befriend everyone ends up befriending the devils and sorts of creatures. ”The reason why the goverment maintains the culture of silence after sacking of any public official is because we do not want to stigmiatize the entire family of such individual.Their children suffer at school, while their wives also suffer at the market places.
  
  Speaking earlier, Alhaji Mansour Njie, disclosed that Mr Jobes entire family had been in distressed and been crying since his dismissal from office.
  
  The Imam Ratib  of Banjul, Alhaji Cherno Kah and the President of the Supreme Islamic Council, Alhaji Banding Drammeh both beseeched Prersident Jammeh to accept the apology  “in the name of the Almighty Allah.”
  
  Secretaries of State for Foreingn Affairs and Education, Bala Garba Jahumpa and Fatou Lamin Faye respectively  associated themselves with the apologist and begged for mercy on him.
  
  For her part, the Secretary of State for Information, Communication and Technology, Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, pointed out that President Jammeh does not differenciate between relatives and friends, but take appropriate action against whoever betrays the trust and expectation of the President.
