I think this is a very good idea and it reminds me of what happened during the civil rights
movement. Ray Charles had just arrived at the auditorium to do a concert in Georgia and one of the
civil rights protestors asked him to cancel his performance because of the Jim Crow laws that were
prevalent all over the South (Blacks were only allowed to sit in the back of auditorium or in the
balcony). Because of this, Ray Charles broke his contract on the day of the concert. The
promoters threatened to sue; consequently, he was banned forever from performing in Georgia. This
band lasted approximately 20 years (don't quote me on time frame). In the 80's - the State of
Georgia finally lifted the band, publicly apologized to Ray, and made his song "Georgia" their
state song.
This could be the beginning of a new era for Gambians if you can get YOUSSOU NDOUR to cancel this
concert in protest of the crimes committed against the people by the government…
