It concerns me deeply that [for some of us], our civility and dignity goes
out the window on occasion. Realizing we are "one people", I think we ought
to have more respect for others, if not ourselves.

I wonder if we viciously and disrespectfully attack other people
[non-Gambians], the same way we do our own.

Can we keep the peace - if any left?

Subject: Attn: Ebou Colly ...Let's move on

Mr. Colly, while it is highly commendable of you to defend yourself
in
public against malicious attacks aimed at tarnishing your good
reputation,
some of these nonsense, you simply have to ignore them and move on.
This is
the second consecutive week that focus has been removed from Yaya
and
instead reposed on irrelevant issues pertaining to the way you look
on TV or
the words you use on G_L. I am again appealing to you to try and
return
focus on the menace in our society. People can always nit-pick your
postings
and find something offensive there to write about. There is very
little you
can do about how certain people perceive you and the way they decide
to
express their opinions of you and your choice of words. You pay
undue
importance to those critics, you run the risk of getting your eyes
off the
        prize: Yaya.

Let them call you pompous, arrogant, whatnot. You are NOT embark on
a
popularity contest on G_L. Granted, some attacks on your reputation
undermines the credibility of your accounts on G_L. By all means,
defend
yourself against those attacks that tend to indirectly question the
veracity
of your statements. By all means also, defend yourself against any
attackers
lying that you are a murderer or a torturer. But attacks portraying
you as
pompous, arrogant etc. frankly, do NOT deserve your precious time.
This is a
subjective OPINION of someone. I know you relatively well and I know
that
you are NOT pompous and arrogant. In my opinion, you do NOT owe
anybody an
apology. Calling people that have no influence whatsoever in your
life;
people that unjustifiably accuse you and your friends of the most
heinous
crimes in the book, without substantiating their allegations ....
calling
those people NONENTITIES, is putting it mildly.

This is going to be one disappointed subscriber if I open my mails
next
Monday and do not see your next installment about the 1994 coup and
the
breakdown of the command structure in the country as demonstrated by
the
recent insubordination shown by the army officer that defied his
superiors'
orders and beat up the journalist that went to cover the court
hearings at
the barracks. That was a very significant happening that I am sure
shrewd
military-men like you did not miss. I am sure that had it not been
for the
distractions of the past few days, you would have commented on that
topic.
Now, junior officers have blatantly shown their superiors that they
will NOT
heed their orders. Thanks again for your invaluable contributions.
