A copy of the letter is here:
Dear HE Yaya AJJ Jammeh,
Please be advised that we are aware that your officials are holding Mrs.
Mariam Denton Nee Jack without legal mandate. We are hereby requesting that you
release her immediately unless you plan to bring immediate charges for the
crime you alleged she committed.
As a member state to the African Charter, the ICCPR and other international
treaties, it is expected that you, as Head of State, respect and ensure the
rights of your citizens. In 2001, you swore and oath that you would uphold The
Gambia's Constitution, the same Constitution that you imposed, a
Constitution that guarantees human rights; you swore that you would work for the
betterment of The Gambia; and you swore that all the alleged misconduct was just
"talk". Your Worship, I hope you still can be true to those words.
If you can show us that Ms. Mariam Denton Zee Jack committed a crime, please
show us. We are eager to know. But otherwise please show us that the
government of The Gambia knows, understands, and respects the liberties and freedoms
of its citizens by ending this unlawful detention!
With the elections soon to be held in September, it is imperative that you
maintain the support of the international community. We, the international
community, are looking for you to show us that you are a democratic leader, to
show us that you care about your citizens, to show us that you respect the
treaties you yourself signed. Show us this by ending the unlawful detention of
Mariam Denton Zee Jack.
We thank you for your urgent attention to this matter and the immediate
release of Mariam Denton Nee Jack.
Sincerely,

The International Community
