Once again, the assassins have struck in Lebanon and stolen the live of yet another prominent and staunchly anti-Syrian Lebanese, Pierre Gemayel who was the Industry Minister in the beleaguered government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. Pierre Gemayel, 34, was assassinated as he was being driven in his car in Beirut. Already fingers are as being pointed at the usual suspect, the Syrian Goverment, Syria was forced to end its two-decades long military presence in Lebanon in the aftermath of massive anti-Syrian street protests in February of this year following the car-bomb assassination of Rafik Hariri, a former Lebanese Prime Minster who fell out with Syria. The Syrian Government denies involvement in any of the assassinations and hints that its leading sub-regional enemy, Israel is instead to blame.

Amin Gemayel, a former Lebanese President and father of the assassinated Minster have called for calm and urged the supporters of his martyred son not to take any action that would further aggravate the already tense political situation in Lebanon. It seems that the apparent motives of the assassins is to push Lebanon towards another civil conflict..Let us hope that such a catastrophic situation could be averted in Lebanon.

Syria, Israel, the US and other shadowy foreign parties and their proteges in Lebanon should stop playing dirty poitics with the security of Lebanon for the sake of the Lebanese people who want nothing other than a free, just and prosperous nation for themselves and their posterity.
