GAMBIA–“You can’t work and expect to deliver and develop if you give
your ears to dogs barking” These were the exact words (that President
Yayah Jammeh, asked to be conveyed) of the ‘almighty’ Leader and
President of The Gambia-Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yayah Jammeh, in a
conversation with him during the presentation of credentials of Sierra
Leone’s High Commissioner to The Gambia- H.E. Mohamed Kemoh Fadika at
State House in Banjul.

Referring, to President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma as a ‘brother’ President
Yayah Jammeh, who is widely referred to in The Gambia and even beyond
as: ‘PAPA DON’T TAKE NO MESS’ asked of High Commissioner Fadika to
pass on as advice to President Koroma. “Be focus and a leader of
strict principles, leaning on no one but on Allah’s wisdom and
direction. Be as strict as possible. Every member of your government
must be your friend but again be strict and let them clearly know what
you stand for”

He further advised that President Koroma should have no barrier
between himself and his people, as they should know that he is a
leader with principles, know his intention and clearly what he stood
for.

According to President Jammeh, “the worst mistake any leader would
make is to put a barrier between himself and his people”. He advised
that the voices of the people, especially the ordinary ones, must be
heard and kept closer to his (Ernest’s) ears, as it is good to know
what the people feel about you.

With regards African mineral resources that he said the WEST wants, he
advised that President Koroma should constantly be reviewing mining
licenses in the interest and terms and conditions of the country.

Advising President Koroma on the issue of children, President Jammeh
said that he should encourage and have love for children, describing
them as ‘Angels that are pure in heart’. ‘”A leader’s popularity can
be tested with the love children have for him” he said.

President Jammeh further cautioned President Koroma, against depending
solely on what his Ministers and top Executives tells him but rather
for him to go and find out for himself. “Meeting the people across the
country is your best bet Mr. President” he advised.

Commenting, on the WEST President Jammeh maintained that he fears no
one but Allah and that he believes that the WEST don’t want Africa to
develop, therefore he said “they set us on fire and exploit the
situation” “Before it was political colonialism but now its economic
colonialism” President Jammeh observed.

According, to the West African Gambian Leader, “Africa is backward
because we are always following the WEST but thanks to Allah, we have
the mineral resources and raw materials. Only if we can determined our
own terms and conditions and process our raw materials, we as Africans
will grow”

“Let us be realistic, how can you advance or be in front of the one
you are following?” he asked. He therefore called on Africans to stop
following but lead.

The Gambia supremo, disclosed that he believes in Pan- Africanism,
therefore he maintained ‘Africans must first dignifies themselves, be
independent and work together” According to President Jammeh, KOLA NUT
is the only commodity that the WEST is not interested in-in Africa.
“Thanks to Allah, The Gambia is gradually developing and we will work
closely and concretely with genuine African countries” he noted.

Specifically mentioning The British, President Yayah Jammeh said they
came and stayed in The Gambia without a visa for 400 years, during
which period, they only built one hospital and one high school. “So
you see it would take them, 800 years to build two hospitals and two
high schools” he pointed out.

The Gambian President noted that “a black man today has to go through
hell before he/she can secure a Shengeh visa. “But they the WEST finds
it easy to come to Africa and expected to be accorded protocol”. He
called on African Leaders to “wake up from their slumber”

Giving a taste of what he referred to as The WEST perception of
African Leaders, President Jammeh recalled that on assuming power they
labeled his government of not being able to pay salaries but that he
surprised them, by in fact increasing salaries. He said they were dumb
founded, and asked where he got the money from. “Allah is my ‘WORLD
BANK’ I replied them”

The still young man (PAPA DON’T TAKE NO MESS) has ruled The Gambia for
17 interrupted years. He is now mostly seen dressed in immaculate
white gown/attire and carrying the Quran at hand and holding on to a
staff and praying beads.

“Every day I pray to Allah to help me, to never fail my people, less
my enemies become happy” he concluded.
