Hello, everyone. I'm a new subscriber. Let me first start by saying that I
am not from The Gambia. I went there this summer for a study abroad program
that my professor headed. I subscribed to this list because of my interest
in The Gambia. I kind of got the feeling from all the websites on the Net
devoted to tourism that I wasn't getting the whole story. Maybe that is not
the right way to put it. I just wanted to learn as much as I could about
The Gambia, since I went there this summer and am going back again in
December, this time, by myself, since I'm interested in doing volunteer
working at the school for the blind located at the Campama Primary School.
I visited there this summer, and it was a very interesting visit. I am
totally blind myself, and I am interested in empowering those with vision
impairments both here in America and around the world. My main focus is on
teaching those who are visually impaired to live as independently as
possible in the environment that they are in.
Anyway, I don't want to make this too long. I just wanted to make my
presence known here. I didn't want to be a "lurker" or anything. I just
didn't feel I could comment on a lot of the issues that are being discussed,
since I do not know very much about them. When I first subscribed to this
list, I began to get the feeling that I had walked into a room where I
didn't belong, or had intruded on an important meeting, or something like
that.
Anyway, thanks for reading my message. I am enjoying the disccusions
going on thus far.
