Graduate Research Assistant Positions Available
The area of your work will be Heterogeneous Telecommunications Network
Modeling and Simulation

Qualifications: B.S. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering The work
will be done in the context of your regular graduate studies within either
the Department of Systems and Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
(Physics or Math possibly) minimum GPA: 3.0 and the following:


C/C++ programming experience (more than course work)


Protocol experience (more than course work desired)
Familiarity with most of the following:
CSMA, TDMA, CDMA
Cellular/PCS (AMPS, GSM, etc.)
Stop and Wait, ARQ
IPv6, RIP, OSPF, Bellman-Ford,
Least Resistance Routing, Dykstra's algorithm
Mobile IP
TCP, UDP
SNMP


Statistics / probability coursework is necessary

These assistantships provide full tuition and working oportunities paying up
to $2400 per month in the summer and $1200 per month during the academic
year. Tuition support is dependent upon research performance.

The research focus is hybrid communication networks design and modeling. This
research will be conducted in conjunction with the University of Maryland,
MIT, Motorola, GTE, Bellcore and others. The program is called ATIRP.

Hybrid communication networks consist of seamlessly interoperable satellite,
terrestrial wireline and terrestrial wireless networks. They are ubiquitous
in military networks and most recently they represent an economically
feasible means to establish a global information infrastructure. There is
critical need to develop modeling, performance evaluation and design
methodologies and tools for such heterogeneous internetworks.
