Hi!
A meeting was held in Stockholm on Saturday, 6th. May 2000. Here is a breakdown of the issues raised and tackled.

VICTIMS' FUND DONATIONS: A further 760 Kronor was handed over by one of the people who was earlier given a donation form bringing the total collected so far to 5, 419.50 Swedish Kronor. There are still many donation forms with various people collecting funds. These people were divided into 3 groups and 3 people were assigned each a group to collect the donation forms and collected monies.

FURTHER FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES: It was decided that a fundraising party will be organised in the very near future. Two people were elected and given the responsibility of negotiating the venue and conditions of operation.

DEMONSTARTION UPDATE: The demonstration organised in Stockholm a week ago appeared in the Socialist newspaper Offensiv. The student massacre was presented at the Socialist Party Congress which took place on Saturday, 6th. May by Surahata Darboe and Landing Alkalo Sanyang . A representative from London promised to cover the massacre in the party's international newspaper which is distributed in 35 countries.

SWEDISH STUDENTS SHOW SOLIDARITY: The chairman of the Swedish National Organisation of Secondary School Students (Elevkampanjen), Mattias Bernhardsson, wrote a protest letter to the Gambian High Commissioner in the UK in which he among other things deplored the killing of the students, demanded the release of those still in custody, implored the government to respect the rights of the students to demonstrate and exercise their constitutional right to assembly etc. The English version of the protest letter is on the union's homepage.

The Swedish students plan to demonstrate in the near future in front of the Gambian Consulate in Stockholm. They plan to march from Sergelstorg in central Stockholm to the consulate.

The Union of Swedish Student Unions will be contacted by Momodou Sidibeh to explore possibilities of involving them in the activities organised in relation to the student massacre.

LAWYERS IN THE GAMBIA: Some people at the meeting raised the issue of the co-ordinators of the international drive, i.e., Alpha Robinson and Ya Soffie Ceesay, contacting the lawyers in The Gambia who have already volunteered and represented the students to see whether they would volunteer to work for free or for a moderate fee for our cause. That way, the monies collected will be allocated to the victims' families. They also wondered whether a contact person/representative in The Gambia has been appointed. A name they suggested was Sam Sarr of PDOIS. Finally, it was suggested that periodic progress reports be made available so that the donors can be made aware of what is going on. Thanks.
                                                                                                    Buharry.
