Omar:
Mamadou Diallo, Big Mamma, as they call him here finished the season as the
top goal scorer and point scorer. He finished the season with 27 goals, one
goal short of the record set by Roy Lassiter a few years ago. His team,
Tampa Bay, made the play-offs but lost to LA. Mamadou scored two goals
against LA, but it was not enough to save his team.

Mamadou is quite popular here. He endeared himself with the American crowd
during the all-star game when he was MVP and then in a post-game speech
called himself the Big Mamma that scores goals. All the newspaper sports
articles had Big Mamma headlines the next day in which they fondly described
this gentle giant and his journey from Senegal via Norway to the US. He is
also apparently roommate and close friend to teammate Carlos Valderrama.

However, all is not rosy for Mamadou. During a game against the NY
Metrostars he collided with NY's goalie, Mike Amman, during an attempt to
retrieve a 50-50 ball. As you probably know, Diallo is a massive fella and
he is not called Big Mamma for nothing. Well, Amman suffered the brunt of the
collision and had to be hospitalized with broken ribs and a broken jaw, among
a few other injuries. NY players and fans were furious since they thought
that the collision was not accidental and Diallo had intent to injure. I
guess Mamadou was a bit traumatized by the incident but his attempts to visit
the injured goalie in hospital were rebuffed. In subsequent matches, NY
players wore undershirts labeled: "Crime of The Century."

Oh well, I say screw those prejudiced New York players. Mamadou Diallo is
the top player in the league and well loved by most of the fans here.
