Mr Saine,
I think the evolving Senegambia should not be stifled, but one should be
concern about Gambia playing key roles in shaping it. If one takes the two
dynamics of culture (i.e. Religion & Music) that you chose to demonstrate
the enormous Senegalese influence, you will realise that it is not beyond us
to stake a major claim.
Barring the numbers and size of Senegal which ofcourse translates into more
leaders from their end of this shared culture, the main reason is lack of
competition and penetration.

Certainly Islam is beyond secular aggrandisation, but the Senagalese
scholars always had a good PR and expanding outlook. Take "Tivaonne" for
instance and compare with "Kerr Cherno Baba", the latter limits its
"talibehs" to Gambia.
Likewise in music, Youssou & Mbalax had been dominant for the past 20 years,
had Ifang Bondi maintained the earlier Successes of the super Eagles, which
had infiltrated Senegal, perhaps Gambia would have now been "Mandinkanising"
Senegal or Senegambia for that matter.

But all is not lost in the evolving new Senegambia, gone are the days when
almost all "Gamos" are anchored by Senegalese scholars, Gambians like Imam
Cherno Kah are giving them a run in.

Thanks
Njok Malik
