Hello Fankung,
Am sure the president and his team, have done a lot of work to secure this business deal. Though it seems you just regurgitate without scrutiny, whatever is official. A bit of due diligence will reveal some inconsistency in the reporting, and one hopes not with the substance of the agreement. It worth noting, that what started as "the Qatar-Gambia International Group, and the Doozi Gulf Commercial Brokers" is ending vaguely as thanking "the prince of Saudi Arabia" among others. This sudden injection is bound to raise alarm bells in some quarters.

The agreement documents of the proposed multi-million dollar modern tourism and commercial complex in The Gambia were finally signed Thursday.

The Gambia government, the Qatar-Gambia International Group, and the Doozi Gulf Commercial Brokers put pen on the agreement documents of the project at a signing ceremony at State House in Banjul, presided over by The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh.

The secretary general and head of the Civil Service, Dr Njogu Bah, signed on behalf of the Gambia government, whilst Abdelnasir M, Khalil, managing director of the Qatar-Gambia International Group, the developers; and Madam Fatoumata Diop, Investing advisor at Doozi Gulf Commercial Brokers, the financiers; appended their signatures on behalf of their respective groups.

Described as huge and unique, the project is to be constructed around the International Trypanotolerance Centre in Bijilo, and is expected to be completed within a period of seven years. The project, as reported in our Thursday's edition encompasses an ultra-modern hotel with 500 rooms, as well as all the necessary facilities -19 presidential villas, 40 suites, facilities, a large conference centre with four halls, the largest being the one with the capacity to accommodate 1200 persons, expected to cater for the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Summit that The Gambia intends to host in 2017.

Other facilities to be included in the magnificent project are the commercial and office towers, a shopping mall and auto mall, residential areas, a state-of-the-art modern hospital, boulevard, forest reserve, beach facility and marina walk and two mosques, amongst others. It is estimated that the project would generate about 20,000 jobs upon completion, and it is designed in such a way that the natural environment of the area such as the forest cover is retained.

Speaking shortly after the signing ceremony, President Jammeh thanked the Almighty Allah for making the day possible, while thanking all the parties for making this possible, and for coming all the way to The Gambia. The president told the investors that The Gambia, though small geographically, they would come to realise that they are in the greatest country in Africa.

President Jammeh spoke about the unique and friendly business environment of The Gambia created by his government, stating that this is the only country where one can register a business within 24 hours. He added: "This is the only country I can say where you can apply to register for any business and no official dares ask you for a bribe. That is why we are developing fast because here we have zero tolerance for corruption.

"Here my bribe is when you employ Gambian people, change their living conditions from poverty to wealth and peace. That is the bribe I ask because my happiness is to see my people happy and live in a country that they are proud of. That is what I am after."

The Gambian leader reiterated to the delegation that his government wants to make a difference and being an example to humanity, especially Africa. This, he added, is why since from 1994 to date, they are doing their best to make sure that this country becomes a shining example for the whole of the African continent, and for it to become a beacon of hope for humanity. He expressed with delight that The Gambia though the smallest, has achieved unprecedented growth and development for the past 16 years.

President Jammeh, while expressing that they are looking forward to start the project in earnest, concluded by thanking all the parties for the confidence and the trust, as well as His Royal Highness the Prince of Saudi Arabia.

Also speaking at the occasion, SG Bah said the agreements signed were well negotiated, asserting that it will kick-start the project. While hinting that very soon the president will lay the foundation stone, Bah also declared that in seven years the keys will be handed over to the Gambian leader, his government and the people of the Gambia by Almighty Allah's grace. Describing the project as a win-win situation, the SG and Civil Service boss hailed the parties' involved for their efforts towards making sure that this project move on. He specifically hailed President Jammeh for his unrelenting commitment to the project.

To this end, he stressed that they are proud to have President Jammeh as the country's leader, noting that they can only pray for his good health and long life, as well as the strength and wisdom he needs to lead the Gambia to higher heights. "He [the president] has so much stock for this country and we are very proud to have him as our president because he is not going to settle for anything little or less," he said of the Gambian leader, while enjoining all to pray for him.

The secretary general and head of the Civil Service then assured of their commitment towards the project.
