What a relief to submit grades at the end of a semester. The best way to celebrate, I thought, was to keep the focus on Jammeh.

To Mr. Jassey-Conteh: I fully support efforts to uproot Jammeh's dictatorship, but I am also adamantly opposed to any attempts to reincarnate the "do-nothing" Jawara regime. I favor progressive change, not regression! Sorry to tamper with your nostalgic feelings. In the midst of the struggle against the oppressive APRC, we must be careful not to romanticize about the inept and ineffective PPP leadership.

To those purportedly in the GNA: given the record of praetorians, I have serious misgivings about individuals in the Gambian army leading any movement for the restoration/establishment of democracy in the country. Virtually all military or coup leaders express support for noble democratic ideals but only a pitiful few demonstrate any sincere commitment to the principles. No more "soldiers with a difference."

Well, with my spare time I dug into my collection of articles on Jammeh, particularly one by Richard E. Sincere, Jr., titled "Is The Gambia Ruled by a Madman?" Here is an excerpt:
"Previously dismissed as merely incompetent and paranoid, Jammeh is now demonstrating a clear hostility toward humanity. Though his regime has long had a dismal record concerning human rights...Jammeh's rhetoric is now catching up to his actions.

"At a rally in the capital city of Banjul on October 28 [1995], Jammeh attacked the principles of democracy and human rights and told the crowd (many of whom were under the threat of arrest or death): 'We can tell you if you don't want elections, in the next one thousand years there will be no elections. And those who want elections, we'll make sure that you go six feet deep and there's nothing anybody can do about it.'"

What has changed about Jammeh since these statements were made in 1995?

That's why we say, "Jammeh Must Go! The Struggle MUST continue!"
