POSTIVE SIGNS FOR NADD-WHAT IS DARBOE AND HAMAT WAITING FOR?
The political dust surrounding the NADD leadership crisis had finally settled. Halifa Sallah, the man of Serre Kunda, has been declared the flag bearer of the coalition. These are positive signs for NADD. Gambians should do away with the culture of one man show. NADD belongs to the people and no political leader. The verdict of people is stronger than agents of destruction bent on self imposed rule or leadership greed if you want.
Today, those wishing NADD a failure, must be shocked by the unanimous decision reached by key political leaders in selecting Halifa Sallah a flag bearer. Lamin Waa Juwara was humble enough to put the nation’s interest ahead of personal interest by gracefully accepting Halifa’s nomination. This is what we expect from our political leaders and not this culture of undesirable power greed or Mansa dream.
The likes of Halifa, Waa, OJ, Kemesseng, Sedia, Uncle Sam and others can raise their heads high in The Gambian community without not being hunted by any guilt or betrayal of trust. They have done their bid by ensuring that the selection process went well. The rest now lies on the hands of the voters. You play your cards well, you have a good Gambia. You play your cards bad, you will continue to see another backward Gambia. Yahya Jammeh is an enemy to democracy. He and his allies are bent on derailing the country’s fragile democracy. It is time for Gambians to end this self perpetual and dictatorial rule.
NADD is faced with many challenges. Its officials and supporters should not think that they will have an easy ride over dictator Jammeh. The mere fact that the UDP and the NRP had withdrew from the coalition, there is bound to be a tougher race for them. After all there was no need for these folks to betray NADD at the eleven hour in the name of mistrust. As rightly stated by Waa Juwara, there was no genuine reason given by Darboe and Bah to justify their withdrawal. Gambians are no fools to be taken for a ride. The whole issue boils down on the issue of power greed. Period. That is the reality.
We are still not told the mistrust Darboe was referring to against his colleagues. For God shake will Darboe tell us what was the reason behind his withdrawal from NADD? Gambians are really interested to know this mistrust he is talking about. We heard from Waa, we expect him to clear the air and tell us what he meant by mistrust. It is never too late for both Darboe and Bah to return to NADD, as Waa said their doors were opened for them.
Gambians will not forgive lawyer Darboe, Hamat Bah or whoever is bent on frustrating the growing demand for political change in our dear country. Gambians are yearning for change and we expect our political leaders to settle their political differences and map out a comprehensive political strategy to oust Jammeh come the October 2006 elections. Anything besides this, will be unacceptable to Gambians. We rest our case.
