Horomsi:The NIA "surveillance" on internet users-Gamtel's Omar Ndow/Jah hate to see Freedom blocked!!!
Horomsi: Leaks from the NIA says the state had beefed up security surveillance in the country, in a bid to crack down people using internet cafes to dispatch private correspondence abroad. The idea of this surveillance said the NIA official was geared towards cracking down on people suspected of “releasing damaging information” about the President and his government. The NIA official said security daily briefings these days centered on monitoring Quantum Net and other private internet service providers across the country. Two or three NIA officials are stationed in internet cafes and in some instances to pose as regular customers. A Quantum Net local operator told Hormosi that the “ unusual NIA visits in their business complex is scaring many customers.

Ndow and Jah cannot help but to execute Jammeh's order to block the Freedom Newspaper!!!!
“ They pretend as if they are here to send mails, when in actual fact, they are out to spy at our customers. Some of them will try to establish unsolicited relationship with us the café operators. They sat by us watching what mail is sent day in day out. The NIA monitoring is very worrying. If the trend continues, Quantum net will end up closing most of its cafes. Our customers privacy should be respected.” said a local café operator, who spoke with Horomsi.
Well, we all know that such surveillance is directed at the Freedom Newspaper. Little did Jammeh know that most of the reports we published here were emailed to us by people working at the State House, the NIA, the army and the police. The NIA will fail in their bid to track our sources. As rightly stated by the Quantum Associate, at the end of the day, local internet providers are bound to lose business. Nobody wants to visit an internet cafe where you will be hounded by NIA agents. This is ridiculous and totally unacceptable.
The Gambian government is hiding something, we do not know. Perhaps, the killing of Daba Marena, and Co, Deyda Hydara and the tortured coup suspects is hunting them. These stories must be reported come what may. The NIA officer in charge of these men assigned to the internet cafes cannot keep secrets. He talks to somebody close to Hormosi. Their daily briefings are usually relayed to us thanks to the NIA insider. Our source is very credible and is on top of issues. He meets Jammeh on regular basis.
The Gambia is now competing with China in curtailing access to internet and free speech. Gambians should not be surprised if he passes a law banning his country men and women from reading or circulating the Freedom Newspaper. He cannot stand what this paper writes. The Freedom Newspaper exposes his evil acts. Under Jammeh’s watch paper like the Freedom Newspaper are classified as a threat to national security. Any paper out to expose his corrupt and dictatorial policies is considered as "illegitimate.”
Omar Nodw and Muhammed Jah we are told, are the least happy about Jammeh’s move to deny Gambians access to the Freedom Newspaper. They have no alternative but to answer to the dictator's call. An official of GAMTEL who spoke to Horomsi yesterday said this” Our MD is equally shocked by the state house memo instructing us to block the Freedom Newspaper. Everybody here is pissed off with such an undemocratic move. But we cannot help. Looking at Mr. Ndow’s face, he was not happy about such a directive. But the order is from the top. Everybody in this office are complaining. This was the only reliable source of news, besides the Point and Foroyaa. We hope the Freedom Newspaper can from now on email its stories to the registered subscribers. This is the only way we can read the paper. These people are determined to block your paper.” said the GAMTEL official who had a chat with Horomsi.
The President we are told, was very upset following the failed hacking operation. “He wanted to see the end of the Freedom Newspaper. Now that the hacking had failed, he resorted to blocking the website. He warns GAMTEL management to monitor mails going out of the country, with the support of the NIA operatives on the ground. He is increasingly worried about some of the stories published by the Freedom Newspaper.” said our source.
Tijan Ceesay of The Gambian Mission in DC told a friend that the Freedom Newspaper should be let go as nothing can stop “these boys from doing what they are doing.” For Tijan, he believes that Bufaaleh was an insider at the State House and it was impossible for such classified state information to be released by a non state house worker. Ceesay will be surprised as to how Horomsi got this tip off. You talked to somebody who talks to Horomsi. Horomsi is well connected, you know. Lamin Sayang alias Alieu Sayang or Sabi, we enjoyed your “broken English.” Keep them coming. Most of these people thinks that they are helping Yahya, when in actual fact they are hanging him. Next time, we are back online we will reveal how Sabi came to this universe. No doubt, this is why he lacks sympathy for his fellow human beings.
