Mr Jallow

I think I will have to take some part of the blame for
"inflaming" this debate. Perhaps, I should have stayed
mute when Ous Ngum began his "counter attack". In my
book, I always have respect for people who are firm
and fair in their actions. In my view, for Chongan, to
say no to a coup plot and tried to resist it speaks
volumes for me and thats why I sympathised with him to
a greater degree. As I said in my previous emails, If
Gambia had 10 of Chongan's types during the
insurrection, July 22 Takeover would have been
crushed, period. Here I saw a man exercising his
legitimate powers only to be betrayed by his immediate
boss Pa Sallah Jagne, who wasted no time in joining
President Jawara and many others for The American
Vessel. How sad this man (Chongan) had to be left in
such bizzarre situation. As mentioned before, if Ebou
Colly had kept quiet about the Coup, no one would have
had first hand information from Chongan about the
prison conditions at Mile II prison. It is therefore
unfortunate that after Ebrima Chongan has made this
sacrifice of enlightening us about their prison
conditions, someone else tries to castigate him about
his past record. In my view, thats totally unfair and
I still stand by it, since most of them wanted to hear
from Chongan.

Ous,Joe Sambou and many others are trying to make
reference to Chongan's past record. No problem with
that so long as the debate is about Human Rights
violation under the PPP regime. In fact I am ready to
partcipate in this debate if it is on the table, but
to be honest with you what we were debating about is
how military personnel detained under Decree 2 of the
AFPRC dated July/August 1994 were harshly treated at
Mile II prison. Lets therefore take note of that
before we lose track.

On that note, I shall not make any more contributions
as it appears, a lot has been said and I wonder
whether this helps us in the struggle to topple Yahya
Jammeh through the ballot-box.

Come October 2001 Gambia must be free as Yahya must go

Have a wonderful morning.

Sanusi.
