Yero

I couldn't agree with you more. For the fact that Mecca is only 4 hours
ahead of the Gambia in time zone, I don’t understand the theory behind Mecca
fast today and we fast tomorrow.

I live in a part of the USA where there aren't many Muslims, but we utilize
a technology favorable to many people. The internet. For the past 5years I
have been solely depended on two websites: www.Moonsighting.com; which is an
astronomical site that brings a day-by-day update of the status of the moon.
The website owner is able to communicate with many other Islamic communities
in and out of the United States. The owner, who I believe is an astronomer,
uses Satellites and powerful telescopes to post information about day-to-day
updates of the moon. The other website is www.islamicity.com, which I
believe most people are fond of. This website if I am correct is based
Mecca. I get recorded Taraweeh prayers and daily Islamic news updates.

My point is, the Gambia has a lot of Internet Cafés and as well as
residential internet access, which can be utilized to disseminate the news
and status especially the sighting of the moon. After all, Radio Gambia can
serve that purpose. I was a broadcaster for Radio Gambia for 6years and I
know for a fact that we broadcast at will, any news or messages from Islamic
leaders.

Here's a proposal, why not organize a national conference for all Gambian
Imams and Islamic leaders and set guidelines for important dates on the
Islamic Calendar. One of the issues that needs to be addressed is the time
difference between the Gambia and Mecca. Do we do things tomorrow because
Mecca did it today? WE ARE ONLY 4 HOURS DIFFERENT FROM MECCA's TIME ZONE.

Mecca like many other communities do utilize astronomy to sight the moon.
The Gambia might not have powerful telescopes, but we have the media, Cell
phones, the Internet, and newspapers (might be a few hours late but at least
printed)

God bless all of us.

Time is getting near, and the important question again, are we going to do
it again?
