Howdy folks, be heedful of what is going on right now in The Gambia. The
unpopular president's recent actions and public utterance are self evidence
that he is ready to deploy the same political strategies used to get votes
in the last presidential election. The first phase of this strategy which
includes creating a so called peaceful political environment and secret
goodwill missions by some prominent opinion leaders on Jammeh's behalf are
already underway.
Monitoring his Met the People Tour also, i noticed that Jammeh has held
secret meetings with community leaders throughout the country in order to
dazzle and solicit their support during the forthcoming elections. He told
the people of Badibou about the mockery five million Dalasi projects,
promise farmers of timely purchase of their groundnuts, denounced political
violence at a rally in Basse, promise to reinstate Imam Karamo Tourey of
Kombo Brikama(there are strong indications from Brikama that this is
inevitable ASP), distance himself from Imam Fatty, appointing Bubacarr
Baldeh in the APRC executive, etc. These and a lot more are attempts to
heal old wounds AJJ Jammeh created himself. I hope Gambians especially
those in the URD, Brikama, Badibou and the entire farming population realize
Jammeh's ulterior motives and vote him out of power next presidential
election.
According to an old Mandinka saying, "kuning-ding merrimerri-la fang lay
ka la killo tay-ye"(a fussy bird always break it own eggs). Yahya Jammeh
already broke the egg and nest and is willing to do anything to recover
them. Remember that intimidation and coercion, which is the last and final
way of getting votes, will only come few weeks before election.
Cheers
LAMIN PF MANNEH
