I think it is very unfair to attack Chongan the way you people did.
On several occasions you people are calling out for the tortured victims to
come out with their stories and by attacking them the way you people are
doing will never help us get the whole picture/story.
Personally, i know Chongan very well. I am not saying that he is a saint
but i am very sure that those of you attacking him are not saints either.
We all know that Ebou Colly is trying to give us a picture of what happened
down there and he can only write on what he witnessed and what he
experienced and that will leave us with a very big gap to be filled to make
the story complete. This is what Chongan is trying to do. There are some of
you who come with false identities but he came with his full name. He
deserve to be commended.
I see chongan as a very young brave man who performed his duties to the
maximum. He did what was asked of him TO DEFEND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY.
If you can remember back in 1981 when Kukoi tried to take the country with
the help of some field force most of them ran away. It was the then IGP
mboob and ahandful of police officers who resisted kokoi until they got
re-enforcement from the pioneer unit led by Momodou Njie and later the
senegalese military. If the members of the GNA had done the same we wouldnt
be discussing torture today. When Jawara got back to the Gambia all those
police officers were highly decorated for executing their duties by
defending the constitution. But chongan, Ebou Colly and others were detained
and maltreated simply because they carried out their duties. If i were to be
president I would decorate Chongan and i will be rest assured that he will
defend me ,the Gambian people and the Gambia as a nation.
I resent the accusation that Chongan is a Murderer as stated by Joe Sambou.
I know Chongan to be a very reasonable young man and no one can convince me
that he will punish a person just out of the blue.
I will strongly advise Chongan not to even try to reply to those accusations
by Joe and others.
This is the first time I am hearing Chongan discussing his arrest and what
he had gone through. I have visited him a couple of and not a single word he
have ever mentioned to me. I know Chongan since when he was a small boy.
Let us focus on the information he is giving us and not on Chongan as a
person.

Matarr
