Pasamba,

I think the best you can do to show your true membership in PDOIS is to ask your leadership to meet the other opposition leaders and negotiate the modalities of a coalition. I think that is the first step in the process...sit at the same table face to face and hammer out a deal. As far as I know UDP is not asking for any more than that. According to reports why is Halifa refusing to meet other party leaders...he should not hold the Gambian people hostage to his personal desires. Let us hit the nail on the head.

As Halifa has stated over and over, the Gambian people want the opposition to hget together to deliver them from Jammeh's tyranny but he is twarting that deisre of Gambians. He needs to heed the peoples desire and make compromises with other to make this a reality. History will then look well at him for that. Issuing statements over and over --be it in public or not --is not going to make coalition happen automatically. The time for talk is over. IT IS TIME FOR ACTION!!! Now or never for Halifa Sallah, Lawyer Darboe, Hamat Bah, OJ, and the rest.

Goro,
PDOIS is just one party among several opposition parties in the Gambia. My question therefore is, what are the concrete position of the other parties on this subject matter? The only other party that publicly stated its clear position is the NRP, which is that they will not be part of any coalition. UDP wants a coalition, but has anybody seen or read any proposal from them that will form a basis for negotiations? Look, forming a coalition doesn't only stop at defeating Jammeh, but how to govern and all the other stuff that will need to be thrashed out before going into elections. I for one have no problem with Ousainou Darboe leading a coalition, for i believe that he is a thousand times more sincere and qualified than Jammeh, but we have to know what the UDP wants.

> My dear Goro I understand your point and I hope I am wrong in the way I read the message coming from PDOIS. If PDOIS is getting ready to meet with UDP folks and sending out messages that sets conditions on the voters for taking a position in a united front then what else is a mixed message? Tell me PDOIS Committee's position has changed due to new developments since they sent that message out and I will relax. Until then, I am feeling the jitters and I bet I am not alone in that boat being rowed down the River Gambia. I know Daffeh cares less about how I feel but I will share anyways.
>
> I understand PDOIS's goal and aspirations towards an enlightened and "en-sovereign-ed" electorate putting their forces behind a sincere and sacrificing leadership to take control of the ship of nation building and democratization. However, it is about time PDOIS brings these ideals to the level of sophistication that matches the voters’ - they want a united front - that's the level we need to start at; the rest will fall in place like a jigsaw puzzle. Asking the voters to prove a certain level of comprehension and sophistication by demanding that the "meetings must be supported massively by those who support the establishment of a United Front to be deemed successful and convincing" is akin to telling the voters to prove their loyalty to PDOIS and PDOIS alone before moving on to a united front. Again, I hope that is not what they meant but.
>
> I know PDOIS has always advocated for a united front and were very accommodating in their position leading up to the formation of NADD, I can attest to that but by God, we need that level of enthusiasm and willingness to compromise now more than ever. This idea of making voters prove numbers or “massive support” is a bit baffling to say the least.

> Sincere and unconditional compromises in negotiations for salvaging what remains of Gambia is the sure way to bring the numbers out not by unilateral demands from for prove of support.
