Conteh,
I can feel that your heart is full. I had to read your piece twice. You have
a lot of similar experiences with me. And I cannot believe that some think
that because of the fact that their is so much disgust for Jammeh in this
List that we have to forget our past. I have read some of the postings Kalilu
Camara wrote, and I decided to just not reply. I know kalilu from High School
days, and still remember meeting him in Lamin through a firend. I know he
means no harm. I hope that is the same Karl.
It is true that we cannot put our personal problems ahead of the national
issues, but they cannot convince me that the PPP/UDP merger is not putting
their own selfish interest ahead of the Gambians either. If not, why would
they meet without the other parties? In fact, why come up with a merger of
two parties calling it an opposition alliance if they were not being selfish
to come to the arena to demand a pay back?
I bet if these two parties are ready to come together to resurrect the PPP in
any way, Gambians will not idle around and wait. The people will speak louder
than ever come October. I think the PPP/UDP merger is underestimating the
capability of the Gambian voter today. People now know that politics is of
interest, and they will do what they think is best for the whole country and
not just to drive back to where we were forty years ago. No politics of
division will be accepted again.
So Mr. Conteh, I am personally pleading to you to keep calm and know that
your experince as shown by the recent Observer and numerous postings here,
are shared by a lit of ordinary Gambians and a Jawara former high ranking
official registered under a different name here will not force us to swallow
what we so desires to vomit.

Ousman Jallow Bojang.
