Tourist Season to Begin Earlier

This year's winter tourist season is beginning about a month earlier than
usual according to a press release from The Gambia Tourism Authority.

The GTA disclosed that the first winter flights, two Boeing 757 from the UK
tour operator JMU, would be arriving in Banjul on Friday, October 4 and
that the JMU will also be extending its winter operations for a further
month to the end of May 2003.

The GTA's release indicated that The Gambia Experience as the only tour
operator flying to The Gambia in the summer will also launch its winter
programme on Tuesday, October 15 with its second flight from Gatwick. 'Its
third and forth flights originating from Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow
will follow in November' it said.

The Glasgow fight is a new operation in The Gambia experience programme and
represents a considerable expansion of their activity.

In addition to the early start to the season four new tour operators are
launching programme to the Gambia this winter - Hotel plan from Switzerland
starting on the 14th December. Director holidays and Olympic odyssey both
from the United Kingdom starting on the first week of November and Fischer
Air from the Czech Republic beginning on 28th October.

Fischer combing Morocco and The Gambia will be flying into Banjul on
Mondays and Fridays with 80 and 90 passengers respectively.

The Scandinavian tour operators, My Travel (formerly SLG) will begin their
winter programme on the 28th October with two flights from Copenhagen and
Stockholm.

The Secretary of State for Tourism and Culture Yankuba Touray reacting to
the news of the early start of the season described it as a very positive
development which augurs very well for our efforts to develop the tourism
industry.

Commenting on the new tour operators and the expansion of the Gambia
experience programme, SoS Touray said it was the best vote of confidence
for our tourism industry.

Samba Fye managing director of Gamtours who are handling Fischer Air said
the arrival of Czech tourists is the result of a long and concerted effort
to diversify into the east European market.
