I agree with Ebrima. There are no moderates in Jammeh's inner circle , least
of all Yankuba Touray and Edward Sighateh. I understand that he and his
brother Peter are downright brutal. Ebou colly alluded to that in one of his
posts regarding the night Ousman Koro Ceesay was killed. According to that
account, even the wives of Singhateh and Touray were in the know about that
night.
The bottom line is that we do not need any army takeover that will continue
to perpetrate the same old evil once people get a taste of power and then dig
in their heels and refuse to go away. Furthermore, Yaya Jammeh may think that
he can escape to Morocco because he is totally ignorant of the coorperation
that has been building among the international community, and therefore
making it virtually impossible for rogues like him to committ mayhem and then
retire peacefully on the Mediterranean. Belgium just enacted a law that
allows it to try the citizens of other countries for atrocities committed
against humanity, and some of the perpetrators and facilitators of the
genocide in Rwanda were just convicted in a Belgian court two days ago.. I
think the rest of the international community should adopt that one fast.
The fact that people like Yankuba Touray and Edward Singhateh know first hand
of the atrocities ordered and committed on behalf of Jammeh, and in some
cases allegedly committed by some of these very people makes them accessories
to these crimes. We cannot afford to have criminals leading us at all.
