Jabou, Habib
I think you confused "Tobacco Road" with the album entitled "Abbey Road" by
the Beatles. Tobacco Road in Banjul got its name from the song by the group
Rare Earth as I have said.(Oussou Njie Seņor - HELP!). The popularity of the
song coincided with government's plan to develop the area and the "Super
Eagles Band" were one of the first to be assigned a plot there. The area
used to be farms of maize (corn) and sweet potatoes. (Sidi Sanneh did
wonders on these farms.) A part of it was a wrestling ground called "Dodou
Mbye Ya(rd)". The wrestling ground "Dodou Mbye Ya" used to be were we now
call New Primet/New Perseverance which was formally an open ground, where we
used to play football. For clarity sake, I have attached the lyrics of the
song "Tobacco Road" and anybody interested in the music, I will be glad to
send it.
Habib, expect a Pmail from me.

TOBACCO ROAD         By RARE EARTH I was born in a dump. My mamma died, my daddy got drunk. He left me here, to die or grow In the middle of Tobacco Road Oh yea yea yea. I grew up in a rusty shack And all I owned was hanging on my back The Lord knows how I loathe This place call Tobacco Road But it's home, it's really my home The only life I've ever known But the Lord, the Lord knows I loathe Tobacco road Am gonna live and get a job With the help and grace of God I'll save my money, get rich I know Bring it back to Tobacco Road Ha Ha Ha Ha Gonna give me some dynamite Gonna bring me a keg Got to blow you up Got to tear you down And start all over again Well I'll build the town I'll be by the shore Keep the name of Tobacco Road, 'Cause it's home The only life I've ever known I despise you 'cause you are filthy But I love you because you're my home Tobacco Road, Tobacco Road You dirty and filthy Tobacco Road Gonna give me some dynamite Gonna bring me a keg Got to blow you up Got to tear you down And start all over again Tobacco Road, Tobacco Road I despise, I despise you 'cause you are filthy But I love you because you're my home. Tobacco Road, Talking about a little, damn filthy place Tobacco Road yea, yea yea. You so dirty and filthy. ??
