Ebou Colley and Ebrima Chongan have given us a glimpse of the atrocities
that occur at Mile II Prisons. I have no doubt that there're countless
other inmates whose stories are more horrifying. Some have been scarred for
life while others, such as the late Sadibou Hydara, never had a chance to
survive the torture.

It is a blessing in disguise that both Colley and Chongan fell out with the
APRC government. Otherwise, I sincerely doubt that we would have ever had
such first hand information about what transpires behind the walls of Mile
II.

I urge such people to emulate Papa Jeng and publish their ordeals for
greater public consumption. Mr. Jeng's book, Detained, constitutes an
indictment of the former Jawara government for some of the atrocities
committed against Gambians in the aftermath of the 1981 putsch.

Maybe someday, we will get a full and truthful account of how Koro Ceesay
lost his life or how the military officers died on November 11 - 12, 1994.

I believe that in due course anyone who committed such abuses since
President Jammeh came to power will be similarly exposed.

Hamadi
