How will the Gambian bar association tackle the deterioration of the legal
system in the Gambia?

Dumo Sarho was detained on June 24 and the charges recently brought to him
shows that the investigation against him took place in the beginning in July
and he has
been held in-communicado for months against the law, by the public
prosecutor and the case has not been brought to court within grace time, as
is the responsibility of the public prosecutor. It's still uncertain if he
at all is legally detained as the court procedures of that appeal are by
all means hindered by the public prosecutor.
The unwillingness of the public prosecutor to fulfill his responsibilities
within the legal system is very severe
and the way the public prosecutor acts when appearing in court by so far in
this case has a lot to say and is a shame for the General Public Prosecutor
and the Attorney General. It's unbelievable that a Public Prosecutor is
obstructing the High Court by refusing to appear.
Members in the bar association of the Gambia have a special responsibility
to act against members who obviously try to invalidate the legal system of
the country. Its a big shame that the association has members who borrow
themselves to this kind of activities and maybe also implement them. The
bar association shall feed and mother the steps towards democracy and a
valid legal system and must take immediate steps as to hinder the collapse
of its own working ground.
