PRESS STATEMENT ON ELECTORAL VIOLENCE PERPETRATED
BY APRC THUGS WITH ARMED A.K.47ASSAULT RIFLES HEADED BY A POLICE OFFICER IN THE PERSON OF MANLAFI SANYANG.

Yesterday 12th August 2006 at around 2.30 pm, a team of the
U.D.P/N.R.P Alliance leading the campaign in the CENTRAL RIVER DIVISION was aggressed by a group of APRC thugs headed by one MANLAFI SANY ANG a Police Officer. The attack was made just off Brikamaba Fulladu west Constituency when MANLAFI and his group of 22nd July thugs on board a GG pajero and a double cabin pick up, blocked the road and denied the U.D.P/N.R.P team from entering Brikamaba.

Upon their reaction to this unwarranted provocation, Manlafi and his
team started pounding on the vehicle of the U.D.P/N.R.P team and
brought out A.K. 47 assault rifles and threatened to shoot and kill. The team refused to be intimidated and proceeded to Brikamaba police station. The Police at Brikamaba refused to listen to the complainants and referred them to Bansang police station. The Brikamaba Police even refused to enter the report in the Police
Diary and failed to acknowledge the concerns expressed by the
U.D.P/N.R.P team. The team proceeded to Bansang to make their report at the station and so far no arrests or comments have been made by the Police.

The Campaign Manager for the U.D.P, Mr. Femi Peters has been
directed by the U.D.P/N.R.P leadership to complain to the Inspector
General of Police at Police Head Quarters in Banjul.
The Government has so far not reacted, an indication that Jammeh has set the stage for electoral Violence and voter intimidation.
Gambians and the International Community, especially the Commonwealth are being informed that Jammeh and the APRC have set aside the M.O.U and the code of conduct, a situation that is totally unacceptable to the U.D.P/N.R.P Alliance. We equally condemn the attitude of the police who have manifested total partisan support for the APRC thugs who should have been arrested and charged for being armed in public and threatening violence.

We equally condemn the double standard behavior of the APRC and
their connivance with the state apparatus of turning the victims of
  aggression to become the aggressors.
