Momodou I thanks for the service to our great nation which Gambia-l stand for. It is a great challenge for the Gambia-l especially with matters for free speech and censorship. I know you learn a lot about such issues as a list manager.
With best ragards!

Hi Gambia-l,
In the winter of 1996 when I volunteered to join the Gambia-l management I never thought my stay there would be this long.

For your information, I am withdrawing from the Gambia-l management with effect from the end of this month. One of the reasons for this decision is that my work condition does not give time to be effective in list management any longer. Another reason is that I believe its time to make a new change so that the Gambia-L institution does not have to depend on any one single person.

Even though I have been contemplating about stepping down from the Gambia-l list management for quite some time, my departure will come with a twist of regret as I have not only learned a lot about the technology behind running a list serve, I have also had the privilege of working with quite intelligent and well meaning Gambians. I shall be staying on the Gambia-l as an ordinary member just as I did before joining the management team.

I have already informed the List management about this decision four months ago when I also suggested that Dr. Malanding Jaiteh takes the leading role especially with regards to the relationship with St. John's University.

Malanding has been on the list long before I joined in 1996 and among other qualities, knows the technicalities of running the list.

Managing the Gambia-L had been a challenge and I want to take this occasion to thank all current and former Gambia-l managers for their dedication and cooperation and all the members for their support and understanding even when some felt management erred in carrying out its duties once in a while

Finally, I wish to confess that it feels strange that after so many years working together, I did not have the good fortune to meet any of the list managers, with the exception of Momodou Sidibeh of Stockholm. That is a condition I will endeavour to change.

My sincere apologies to anyone I might have offended during my function as list manager.

Best wishes to all of you.

Regards,
Momodou Camara
