Gambia Tourism Support And Dumbarton UK Gives Free Education To 90
Children At Lambai Nursery School, London Corner


The Gambia Tourism Support aims to link small scale tourism enterprises
with the corporate responsibility to assist the community.

Francis Glynn, Kabirou Touray and Foday Suso in collaboration with guests
from Dumbarton,  Alistair and Patricia Macindu met the National assembly
member for SERREKUNDA central, the councillor of Serekunda ward, Mr.
Francis Mendy, the Alkalo, Mr. Seedy Jobe and the chairperson of the ward
committee Mr. Lamin Jobe at Santa Yalla street to launch a free education
programme for 90 children enrolled at Lambai Nursery School.

Mr. Lamin Jobe chaired the meeting. He indicated that the aim of the
sponsors from Dumbarton is to provide, free education, meals and health
care to 90 children in Lambai Nursery School. This was applauded by the
parents. He assured the sponsors that these will be corporation by the
community to support the school.

Mr. Samateh, the teacher in charge of the school explained the history of
the school and thanked Mr. Tunkara the proprietor of the building for his
cooperation. He called on the National Assembly member, Halifa Sallah, the
councillor, Mr. Francis Mendy, the chairperson of the ward committee, Mr.
Lamin Jobe to help the school to stand on its feet.

Mr. Kabirou Touray indicated that Foday Suso pioneered the project, that
they had invited the National Assembly member, the Alkalo of Serrekunda,
the councillor of Serrekunda ward and the chairperson to ensure that the
project does not fail. He said that Foday could have taken the project to
his own home town but had shown what a good citizen should do. Foday
emphasizes the same sentiments. He indicated how Francis Glynn motivated
him to utilise his musical skills to entertain tourists and serve the
community; that it was not sufficient to make money but also to give
support to the community.

Alistair expressed his affinity to the Gambia. He saw that they have the
aim to help the children but would want money to be utilized as
programmed; that failure to do so could lead to ceasure of support.

The councillor, Mr. Francis Mendy expressed his happiness that such a
project for free nursery education  could start in the constituency and
ward; that it is a great development which should be  managed properly
through committees and boards to ensure that it succeeds.

Alkalo Seedy Jobe expressed his appreciation for the developments and
expressed his desire for corporation among the community leaders.

The National Assembly member indicated that the heart should always speak
the language of service, that the problem of humanity anywhere should be
the concern of humanity everywhere. He expressed appreciation for the
initiative and assured GTS and Alistair that there will be transparency
and accountability in implementing the project, that he will corporate
with the councillor, the chairperson of the ward committee, the parents,
the headmaster and teachers to establish a plan and structure for the
project to ensure it's successful implementation. He offered D2000 from
the constituency Development Initiative fund to the project to promote the
spirit of self help.

One of the parents, Fatou Mbenga gave the vote of thanks. She called for
cooperation and unity irrespective of tribe to serve the children.
