Dear Jabou Joh <[log in to unmask]>

I think we should stop being fatalistic and work witthin the imperfect system
to change things for the better. Even with the opposition in the minority,
debates do stir up public opinion and make the government take a you turn on
some unpopular legislation.
The UDP betrayed the gambian people, their supporters and the other opposition
parties by their unilateral boycott at the eleventh hour. I have heard
somewhere(reliable source which could not be named) that they have been
contacted by other opposition parties to work out a strategy for fighting the
forthcoming parliamentary elections. At least they should have had the
courtesy to inform their partners in the opposition about their intensions
earlier. People on the ground have a different to UDP and feel betrayed and
disappointed.
