An Appeal to NADD and Darboe

In the hour of collective success, we should ack as Gambians with one
objective; the building of a Gambia that is free, democratic, socially just,
educated and healthy, environmentally friendly and an economically sustained
development. A society of dignified and prosperous people with the great
task of contributing towards removing Africa and Africans from the stigma of
under-development, desease prone, corruption, tribaltism and despotic
mal-governance.

The coming rectification and re-orientation exercise that Gambians are
coming to engage in after this year’s elections should be brazed with
competence and sincerity. It is going to be the most difficult period in our
contries history and the most joyful one for all the possitive minded
patriots.

One should understand that NADD is just a forum that would usher in this
magnificient era but it is to be understood that there are countless new
players in the near future and that the era of political, social, economic
and cultural hegemony is the basic taget of the Free Gambia Movement that is
growing by the day.

The question of leadership should not be left to prestige seeking,
narrow-minded zealots but rather to the open-hearted, conscious, and
inteligent and silent masses who are yaerning for freedom and prosperity.

In the past few months, moves made by Mr Ousainou Darboe has not been easy
to understand but now few elements are filtering through. We know that some
members of the UDP are clinging on the flag-bearer issue on the same bases
that this party was voted for in the past election that they paticipated in.
Some of he UDP electorate are very genuine patriots but there are those
die-hard hegemonist and tribalist zealots who are so narrow minded that if
Ousainou Darboe continues listening to them, they would destroy his
credibility and great contribution.

Mr Darboe should also be very mindful not to fall into the same trap as his
former colleagues, Sheriff Mustapha Dibba and Bakary Bunja Darboe who were
and are still so arrogant in their quest for the post of President of the
Gambia and to that end, they would use all means available even if it would
be at the detriment of our people. Unfortunately, most of the people who
backed both SM Dibba and BB Darboe are the ones who conttitute the core of
the UDP. This does not mean that they are bad people but they need to be
reformed to adapt to the new progressive direction the Gambia is taking.
Many who think that it is sufficent signal to testify to the accusations
that he also harbours the ideology of “Mansa dingo mu mansooleti” also
misinterpreted Darboe’s recent interview. I don’t think these prople know
Darboe as a person but it also means that Daoboe must take these criticisms
into consideration.

We all wish Ousainou Darboe to be the president of the Gambia in this
crucial period but we must put into consideration that great potential this
legend of justice in the Gambia can offer to the African continent by being
the Minster of justice. Former Attoney general Hassan Jallow (UN under
secretary general and Prosecutor in Arusha on Rwanda after the genocide) who
initiated the African Human Rights commission and has been working so hard
to lay the foundations of the African Court of Justice is almost alone in
this endeavour. He would need someone so prominent like Lawyer Ousainou
Darboe as to boost this effort to success and this needs lots of time
coordination with other African legal experts and NGOs.

The Human Rights Centers and NGOs in the continent need a great push on a
Pan-African playing field. The legal system in the Gambia needs to be
overhauld and a credible governing system based on human rights needs to be
established.

I thus urge the UDP supporters, NADD and all Gambians to take these issues
into consideration before waistng a great African like Daboe at the State
house. Haapy new beginning. [log in to unmask]
