Gibby and Sillah, thanks for the updates. It is long over due that the
clamps are put on Ghana Airways and they were a disaster waiting to
happen, just like the Ferries in many African countries. We as a people
must demand better from those that serve us. It should not take the FAA
for Ghana Airways to be grounded. Our negligent government should have
done so a long time ago. Gibby, you will agree that safety is first over
cheap fares or short travel time. I would rather travel in a safe and
more expensive route than in a cage waiting to crumble from the sky. Just
like most things African, we see these flights being overloaded and a
disaster waiting to happen, but we just focus on getting home. Well, that
is the same mindset that created the ferry disaster in Senegal and in many
other African countries. Besides the safety issues, they are neither
reliable nor timely and they can have a day or two delays in some cases,
per leg, not to mention missing luggages with no reimbursements. Ghana
Airways would not survive a year with that poor service if they were
flying domestic in the US or Europe. So why should Africans tolerate that
from them? When one is crossing a stretch as wide as the Atlantic Ocean,
safety is number one.
