Mr. Bojang,

Thanks for your concern. The Gambian community is doing fine under the
circumstances.  Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of others as you can
glean from news despatches. Hopefully, President's Gbagbo's speech last
night asking what constitutes in my view a small minority of Ivoirians to
refrain from targetting foreigners, including French nationals, will help
defuse a potentially explosive situation. He has also agreed to negotiate
with the rebels provided they lay down their arms which has been rejected.
I am certain that the ECOWAS Contact Group will be active once more in an
effort to find a peaceful resolution of the crisis which has already cost
this country hundreds of human lives and yet-to-be estimated t
oll on a once
vibrant economy.
