Dumo & Co treason treason trial hits rock again judge and defence lawyer taken ill

The treason trial involving Ebrima Barrow, Momodou Dumo Saho, Momodou Marena, Ebrima Yarbo, Lt Lalo Jaiteh and Lt Omar M Darboe at the High Court in Banjul was yesterday adjourned to February 7, 2002 for mention, as both judge and defence lawyer were reported sick. When the matter was called, lawyer Borry Touray who held brief for lawyer Sillah informed the court that Mr sillah was indisposed and was hospitalised.

The presiding judge, Justice Wallace Grante declared that apart from Lawyer Sillah who was indisposed, the court had earlier on asked the court clerk, Sainabou George, to adjourn the matter because he (the judge) was also indisposed for some days and had never thought he would sit yesterday. He further declared that rather miraculously, he recovered and sat yesterday but the accused persons could not come to the court.

At the last sitting, the accused persons were informed by the court that the state filed two additional charges to the four charges that were preferred against them and the accused persons could not take their plea, when the court suggested that it would be prudent for lawyer Ousman Sillah to consult his client before they take their plea. The matter was then adjourned. Further more, yesterday's sitting however hit the rock again when the matter was adjourned to February 7, 2002 for mention, in anticipation that Lawyer Ousman Sillah would have been medically fit to come to court on the next adjourned date.
