Hi Gambians!

I thank you for the positve replies received about my posting "Why is
Africa still the poorest continent".

As a young gambian, I am grateful to express my frustration and fear
over the situation in the Gambia which is tearing the nation apart.
When are we (the people) going to take charge of our today, tomorrow
and future? Our economy is on a collaspe, the education system lack
basic resources, health sector lack educated personal, drugs and
rehabilitaion facilities, and the list can go on and on.

First of all I believe that a functional justice and police system is
one of the ground stones of a modern society. In order to win peoples
confidence and reliability to change then I believe an attitude change
is required both from voters and from elects. I would love to trust and
respect the police when I need their service. For 40 years we've been
doing the same thing, respecting, adoring and serving our leaders just
as our forefathers did to the colonial masters. It's time to be aleart,
take up the debate, demand more from our elects and you know what,
without us they can't be still dictating, plundring and ruining our
state. They have do their jobs right, we can't afford to elect leaders
who don't listen and take us seriously. We deserve to be treated as
citizens with dignity, we need no military pansers on our roads and
streets to be convinced that we've chosen the wrong players. I hope you
still have patience, mine is almost gone.

I made a comparision between Africa and Asia(former colonised
continents) in my last posting, which showed that Asia is way ahead of
Africa in all thinkable ways. Why? Some of the reasons are that the
Asian people put pressure on their leaders over issues as improved
education, industrial creation and sustainability, infrastuctural
development, improved agriculture, trading, health,,,,. Why is a
country like Ivory Coast way ahead os Gambia in development? Ivory
Coast has a developed industry in textiles, cacao and agriculture. I
buy Ivorian oranges at stores in Stockholm, why not Gambian? Does
anyone understand me? I believe that we poor Gambians can make a
difference if we start chanlenging our leaders in issues that concern
our welfare instead of improving Jammeh's and co.

Keep the debate on to make a change instead of keeping quite, or else
our youths and children's future will more darken.

/Elizabeth
