"The thing that I find most frustrating about the post-9/11 world is that
politicians and pundits continue to brush off any attempt to inquire into
the sources of the hatred that some folks clearly feel towards the US (and
the West in general).  The refrain is always 'nothing justifies what was
done on 9/11.'  Okay, fine.  It's unjustifiable.  But we're not talking
about justification; we're talking about causation.  It's far to easy to
just say 'these people are Evil' (with a capital 'E'), thereby dismissing
any possibility that we may bear some culpability at some point in the
process.  I submit that very few people are truly big-E 'Evil.'  Most
people act out of some sort of motivation, and when they do violence, it's
usually because they believe they've been wronged.  Wouldn't it be
worthwhile to look at why they feel wronged?
