Hi Gasa,
Good day. This is a good one.
I always enjoy your postings. I am the Liverpool distributor. Gambians around here always welcome these good news about our Mother Land The Gambia. They all visit www.qanet.gm to have a read on all the three news papers.
I also occasionally recieve video tapes which I pass around for them to see, as the saying goes, "Seeing is Believing".
Keep it up.
Cheers,
Rodine.

  Folks,
We must come to the rescue of our beloved country. The "high school drop-outs" and "Mental Midgets" are definitely ruining our countrty. This week, these "Mental Midgets allowed another petrol station to open in our country. Do we need petrol stations when we don't have trains and planes? Do we need automatic carwashes when not everyone has a car? No! These people cannot take us forward. They are rendering our people poorer by the day. And guess what, these people have totally commercialised Kairaba Avenue. They have demolised most of the residential homes along Kairaba Avenue and replaced them with multi-storey office blocks, bars and restaurants, banks, shopping malls and now petrol stations with automatic car washes. They have also abandoned our old tradional matchbox houses and are building very beautiful buildings. Look at the Africell building by ceder club. This imposing building is now being rivalled by more buildings in the area. One cannot now recognise good old Kairaba Avenue/Pipeline. How can Elton oil construct such a magificent complex directly opposite the maginificent Africell building? Why does the near-bankrupt Gamtel build such a magnificent GRTS headquarter in Kanifing? Why is there so much construction everywhere? For God's sake folks, not even our sacred stink corner where we have our Camalo shrine is safe from these construction freaks.

I have reliably learnt that over the weekend, CSE, that incompetent construction firm, siezed the Westfield to Tallinding stretch of the Westfield to Mandinaba road, that DO NOT exist for manoeuvres. I understand that they have cordoned off the entire stretch of that road and moved in their catapillars, bulldozers, dumptruck, graders etc. I understand that there will be belly dancing by the graders, a lot of foot-stamping by the vibrators and compacters and graceful movement of the meandering dumptrucks. I have told you guys that this road does not exist. We cannot allow such manoeuvres along that road.

To add salt to injury, these "Mental Midgets" organized a gala evening at the Jama hall of the Kairaba beach hotel this past Saturday. The NIA and all the security forces were mobilized to abduct, kidnap and forcefully made our already very poor citizens cough up as much as D500.00 each to attend a tourism awards ceremony. Are these people well? The Jama hall was packed full and as if that is not enough, they made pledges of up to D1.7 million towards the construction a new headquarter for the newly formed Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA). I would have thought that having paid such a colossal sum (D500.00 entrance fee), there would be musicians like the late Bob Marley, Youssou Ndure etc. But no. These "Mental Midgets" used Gambian musicians. How can they support, encourage and promote our youths to become performers? It is all GTRS and Tombong Saidy's fault. As Director General of GRTS, this guy has done nothing other than give airtime to our youths and encouraging them to become professional performers and musicians. At the last count, The Gambia had over two dozen bands and groups. Do we need such development? I say NO!

Remember when we were at the helm of things? Instead of building a single high school, we built you Old Jeshwang prison and expanded the facilities at Mile Two central Prisons. When we needed additional space to incarcerate people in 1981, we commandeered Bakau primary school for months. These were the good old days folks. Now what do we have? The inmates running the assylum that is what we have. They have turned everything upside down. They build schools as if we need education, they build hospitals and clinics as if we are a sick nation.

Finally folks, do you know that Blaise Jagne, that "Mental Midget", is wrecking havoc in our foreign office? This guy, not long ago, facilitated the visit of the Taiwanese president to The Gambia. This was followed by the invitation of no less than six heads of state and governments to attend our Independence anniversary. The dust has hardly settled when President Jammeh is invited as a special guest of The Senegalese President, Abdoulie Wade on the occasion of that country's Independence anniversary. The two presidents have also agreed to adopt a common strategy towards NEPAD. Are these people well? Right now, folks, The Gambia is host to none other than the President of the UN General Assembly. And guess what, next month The Gambia is again hosting another foreign head of state. This time round, it is the Emir of Qatar. Do we need such developments in our country? I say NO!

Have a good day, Gassa.

Elton Oil inaugurated

The Gambia’s first truly African owned oil company, Elton Oil Company, was on Saturday April 13 inaugurated at the new service complex on Kairaba Avenue. Edrissa Mass Jobe, managing director and a share- holder in the newly inaugurated Elton Oil Company and service station in the country says dreams are nothing when they remain theoretical and impracticable. Mr Jobe who is an engineer by profession but a remarkable business executive said, “We have to do the common things and do them uncommonly well.” Elton began in Senegal some 18 months ago and Director Jobe said “the company is a pan- African affair. Business is a very good way of uniting nations. We are out for African integration. First, we will go regional and then target the global market.”

According to Director Jobe, the overall Elton project management is owned and done by Africans. “33 per cent shares is Gambian owned and the rest is for other African shareholders. Even though it is a new company, we are not new in this business. Our idea of appropriate technology in any business venture is not inferior service or facility. We believe Hi-tech is very appropriate for The Gambia. You can see that at our new service station on Kairaba Avenue where the country’s first automatic carwash service is installed. “We also believe making money should not be contrary to being responsible, a principle we will apply in opening several other Oasis across the country.

Elton Oil is truly a role model,” Director Jobe said. Bakary K Jammeh, marketing manager Elton Oil, said there were already 53 Gambians on the staff list and that more people would get employment when Elton’s current expansion programme is fully implemented. The supplies and marketing guru said as a promotional strategy, Elton Oil had offered the first 10 litres of fuel plus promotional T-Shirts to their first customers free of charge.

The next 50 cars, Mr Jammeh added, would receive T-shirts. “From now on, if you buy 10 litres and above, you will be given a free T-shirt, 20 litres and above receives a T-shirt and a cap, 30 litres and above receives a T-shirt, a cap and a key holder. “For us at Elton, everyday is a promotional day for friends and family. So welcome to Elton!,” he said.
