Youth leader found with throat cut

A youth leader in Jambangjelly village, Kombo South, was found dead by the
road side in the early hours of Monday morning by passers-by.

According to eye-witnesses, Pierre Mendy, believed to be in his early
thirties, was found with his throat slit. He was last seen by his family
when he left with his friends to go to a ghetto in the outskirts of the
village for a drink the previous night.

According to police spokesman, Superintendent Pah-Amady Jallow, a cellphone
number was found on top of the corpse of Pierre. The police later traced
the number to a lady in nearby Brikama but they refused to disclose her
identity. However, the young lady claimed she did not know Pierre.

“A suspect, YaFaye Mendy, was arrested as he was found at the residence of
the deceased in the early hours of the slaughtering [sic] and he is helping
us in our investigation,” Supt Jallow said.

The body of Pierre was taken to RVTH for post-mortem but was handed over to
the family in Jambangjelly for interment yesterday evening.
