In this era of piracy and prolific e-publication, the marginal value of
intellectual property has been greatly diminished. It had been the harbinger of
innovation and sobriety in research and the legend of archiving and
standardization. I have imagined that intellectual property law and law of torts
developped from the detriment of indifferent innovation and snake-oil marketing
that has plagued civilizations before us and innured hopeless groping and chance
wild-catting. More often miniscule successes in those endeavours have come
with deleterious affect. In areas of health, education, art, culture, and
industry. That state of affairs was followed by diminished returns and commaed
value. Exploitation without the moral component of shared value for sustainable
development. We have lost civilizations along the way.

In the matter of Obama and Patrick, it is readily apparent that Obama did
not intend to plagiarize. However, the fact that he did not think the act
plagiarism was why he casually committed the error. It would have been effortless
for Obama to say "As my good friend Duval Patrick shares, ........." The idea
that everyone does it is no excuse for a refreshing change from the status
quo ante. So I would drop the excuse immediately were he not to have been
counseled so to do. What the excuse would do is to certify then that; alright, if
we forgive the error for ubiquity, then the attendant idea that Obama is
necessarily not a departure from the status-quo becomes issue. There is more
honour and value in apology and furture due-diligence from thence forward. The
fact that Duval allowed the error for comraderie sakes, and the appearance
that Obama's own intellectual property may have been plagiarized, should be
enough encouragement to begin anew. From proper erasure.

What Obama must consider here is that he is in competition with Hillary,
also a democrat like Duval. And Obama has projected the idea of his uniqueness
as serum to uniformity in politics. There-in lies the value of the expectant
apology. It appears the hope is ever so slowly being boiled out of my friend
already. Takal sa Ndiga.

As Huckabee is wont to quip, "y'all ought to get away from this microwaved
elections concept. We ought to cook it slow". I have taken an endearment to
Huckabee's wit and circumspect. Against enormous odds. Were he not a Secterian
candidate, he will have accrued my affirmation.

Haruna.
