STARTING DATE: May-- June 2003 or negotiable.

DESCRIPTION:   This two-year project is designed to study factors that
permit and prevent salamanders and small mammals from moving through road
culverts in Central Appalachian riparian corridors.  The study will include
a mark-recapture study of aquatic and riparian salamanders and small
mammals, and evaluation and measurement of road culverts, streams, roads,
and riparian habitat.  The student selected for the study also will be
working closely with a second M.S. student evaluating fish and invertebrate
movements in relation to culverts.  The student will be working toward a
M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources in the Division of Forestry at West
Virginia University.

QUALIFICATIONS: B. S. in Wildlife or closely related field.  Minimum GPA of
3.0 and combined quantitative/verbal GRE scores of 1100.  Field experience
with salamanders or small mammals is required. Experience with GIS, stream
ecology, and riparian ecology is desired.  Industrious, hard-working student
that can make decisions independently and supervise technicians preferred.

STIPEND: $10,000/year plus health insurance and complete tuition waiver.
