Village Youths Reject Commissioner's "Gift"

The Independent (Banjul)

The Commissioner of the North Bank Division was allegedly heckled by youths
of Kekuta Kunda in Baddibu Central who rejected his "gift" of a goat to
them.

Reports monitored from the division say Alhagie Sulayman Keita was on
Wednesday shocked when angry youths of Kekuta village refused to accept a
goat he had taken to the village to "bribe" the youths into preventing Hamat
Bah the leader of the National Reconciliation Party from holding a planned
rally there.

Speaking to The Independent the youths who said they are not "hungry for
meat" claimed that Commissioner Keita gave them the goat telling them that
they should not encourage Hamat Bah of the NRP and his entourage to hold a
rally in the village.

However, in their exchanges with Commissioner Keita they allegedly pointed
out to him that their support and subsequent vote is for the National
Reconciliation Party. "We see no reason why we should not vote for Mr. Bah,"
one youth was quoted as saying.

"He is a capable politician with the interest of the Gambian people at
heart," he said. Meanwhile, The Independent has reliably learnt that the
goat was later handed over to the APRC divisional chairman Kebbaring Jammeh
and his people.
