Tribalism has surfaced its ugly head change! In fact has it gone anywhere? It appears everybody has it stored in the secret pocket of the under wears ready to be pull out as convenient.

Guys/gals humans landed on earth (biblical/evolutionists) in races, tribes and/or some sort of localized identity. Hence is a fact of life that will never go away. Learn to live with it. In as much as one wants to use it, often to disguise his/her running out of arguments - its doesn’t hinder democracy, probably it post some definite difficulties. The good news is that functioning institutional democracy makes some amends to fix those anomalies.

Above all isn’t it a pure distraction what’s being argued? The goal ought to be to institutionalized democracy in the Gambia - period. Everything else is secondary or minor. The goal is not and should not be to fight one dictator in order to crown another dictator.

It is the essence of democracy we are critical of one another on issues. It’s wrong (no use) to talk about each others food, house, spouse, skin color, tribe, education, village, etc. to the extent it has no bearing on the national issues.

That said it’s wrong to attack the person of these politicians just because you can. However is fair change to talk about them and their policy/democracy propositions. It’s legitimate to rigorously debate what they did or did not do and/or say or not say in their capacity as public leaders. Those who can’t tolerate that are telling us they can’t stand democracy as both Jawara and Yahya’s followers can’t stand the heat.

I fully remembered few years ago I wrote an articles questioning the rationale of Halifa/PDOIS advising Gambian vote YES at the Referendum know how flawed the Constitution was. I ended up asking a question whether they are the usual states-persons who truly want military rule go away for do and/or their was a feeling that they stand a good chance to win subsequent elections because all the other known politicians of the first republic were banned. I received bunch of commendation texts and emails. About 6 months when I wrote an article titled ‘Anybody But Yahya’ approach to our struggle is not a good enough goal. I had to fend of people on the phone for their displeasure. Some accused me of shooting under-the-tent. Goodness every issues I highlighted is about Gambia and those individuals actions and/or inactions.

The undemocratic tendencies has being my suspicion of some members of the struggle. That is to remove/replace Yahya with a person of our choice. In that Gambia their leader and his/her cliques positions/views are democracy and good for us and above all we should follow as flock of sheep - again that was Jawara’s Gambia and is now Yahya’s Gambia. That’s not a worthy fight for me and I hope is not one for you. I am neither in this because Yahya and I are of different tribes nor am I because someone in the opposition is of the same tribe with me.

Our goal can’t be compromise - ‘A Functioning Democracy Republic of Thew Gambia’. The root of this goal is founded on the founding of our nation - The Republic of The Gambia. We owned it we should decide how we’re govern. It’s not even about a good government as it is about our government - of, by and for the people of The Gambia

My thoughts!

Burama.
