 INROADS is implementing a new program for students of color planning to
attend law school in 2000 or 2001 called the INROADS Law Internship Program.

Qualifications:  College junior or seniors with at least a 3.0 grade
point average Planning to enter law school in 2000 or 2001.

African American, Asian American, Latino or Native American students.
Must possess Demonstrated leadership skills.  The INROADS Law Internship
Program (ILIP) is to encourage greater technical excellence and academic
preparation for students of color in the field of law.  Students will have a
paid internship with a law firm during their last summers of college and on
into law school.  In addition to the paid internship, the student will
attend leadership training and law forums.  The ultimate goal is to place
the student with the firm.  The intern would be obligated to work for a
minimum of two years with the sponsoring firm upon graduation from law

I am Commander Earl Richardson, Class of "77". I am presently the Executive
Officer of the Navy ROTC Unit at Florida A&M University(FAMU) in
Tallahassee, FL.

I am soliciting your help in finding qualified minority candidates
interested in attending FAMU or one of the other Historically Black Colleges
or Universities on a Navy ROTC Scholarship. This scholarship is called a HIP
POCKET SCHOLARSHIP. It includes tuition, fees, books, uniforms and $150.00 a
month stipend. If a student attends FAMU on a ROTC Scholarship, the
University will give that student a Room and Board Scholarship. That equates
to a full ride for a college education. The requirements are, be Africa
American or Hispanic, have a 1050 on the SAT or 22 on the ACT and a 3.0 high
school GPA.

The other schools that have this scholarship are Hampton, Morehouse,
Southern, Prairie View, Savannah State and Norfolk State.
Each school has ten scholarships and many go unused. Please pass this
information to any young man or women who may benefit from this opportunity.

   Bill and Melinda Gates Announce New Millennium Scholars Initiative to
Bridge the Gap in Access to Higher Education.

Gates' team up with three major minority scholarship funds to eliminate
financial barriers to college degrees.


SEATTLE - The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation today announced the
formation of the Gates Millennium Scholars initiative, a 20-year plan to
provide financial assistance to high-achieving minority students who are in
severe financial need and otherwise would be excluded from higher education.
The program will be administered by the United
Negro College Fund, with the support and participation of the Hispanic
Scholarship Fund and the American Indian College Fund.

The initiative goal is to foster a generation of leaders that represent the
full talents of society by providing access to higher education for minority
students who have achieved academic standards and shown leadership promise,
but are in financial need. The program
will begin in the fall of 2000 and provide financial assistance to 1,000 new
students per year, over a 20-year period, with an annual investment of $50
million. At any given point 4,000 students per year with be Millennium
Scholars.

Scholarships will be offered every year through the completion of the
student's program of undergraduate study. Awards will be renewed annually
and Scholars will be expected to maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0 or
better.

Students pursuing advanced degrees in math, science, engineering, education
and library science will receive continual financial support for
post-graduate studies.
