It's hard to keep up with you - especially when one is tied up with other
stuff. All I can say is that, I identify with your sentiments -in their
entirety. It's nauseating hypocrisy that people like Joof try to distance
themselves from the ancien PPP regime. Like you've rightly pointed out,
there's a tiny superficial veneer of wealth in Gambian society, but when one
scratches that surface, it becomes clear that there's very little difference
between Demba Jobe in Kabada, and Masaneh Sisay in Fajara. No one can name
you ten people in that country who have made money totally independent of
the public service. What we've witnessed in the past 30/40 yrs is people
holding senior positions in govt stealing tons of public money, turning
around and bad-mouthing govt after they've been sacked. Many -to their
credit- invest in their children's education. The unfortunate thing though
is that, many of these offshoots go around bragging about being "educated by
their fathers' money," -NOT govt money (they never cease to remind anyone
listening,) when all their parents have done is re-cycle looted govt funds!
Talk about ingratitude...
