Mo, thanks for your voice to this discussion. You noted thus:

"The current leaders failed during the past two elections and we have seen
how the electorate protested by not voting because of the lack of a unified
opposition."

We all saw what unfolded here since 2000 and the number one constant in the
failure of the opposition is one party - the UDP, and one person Ousainou.
If we start with the truth, we shall surely end with the truth.

Fact: Ousainou and the UDP erroneously believed that they had the numbers
and all they needed is the PPP to win in 2001. We begged them to come
together, to include the NRP and PDOIS and they flatly refused and we saw
what the result was.

Fact: They erroreneously boycotted the NA elections that followed and some
of us gave them multiple reasons to contest, and they flatly refused, and we
all saw what followed.

Fact: The NADD idea was germinating fast and Gambians caught up with it and
the one person that refused to attend meetings - Ousainou, is the one person
that reneged on all agreements that his own representatives agreed to, and
the same one that pulled the UDP out of NADD.

Fact: With NADD, the opposition won more seats over the APRC and that got
Jammeh scared and that led for the arrest of OJ, Hamat, and Halifa. How
come Ousainou was not challenged by this new voice, if as we are stating
unity was the way to go?

Fact: Ousainou's manipulations paralyzed NADD and just like in 2001, he
managed to yank Hamat to his and our loss. Where was this new voice at that
very moment?

Fact: Gambians appealed to both NADD and the UDP to form a tactical alliance
to win more seats for the opposition, I think we all know what the answer is
- the UDP flatly refused. Worst, their venom was directed at Halifa and are
happy that he lost his seat. With a tactical alliance, the opposition could
have won at the very least 20 seats. Now, how come we were all mute when it
mattered the most?

Now, I want for someone to tell me (specifics), how Halifa and NADD failed
the opposition? I want for someone to tell me what flaw or reservations
they saw in the NADD MOU, that the UDP and Ousainou signed and that Gambians
championed? I want for someone to tell me what the ARC MOU is, or what they
stand for? Since 2001, has anyone seen a UDP or NRP analysis on what they
stand for or explaining the the results of any contest, or policies of the
APRC since 1994? It is only when we start with the truth that we shall end
with the truth.

To address this important suggestion of the future of our nation, we need to
revisit our history in order to forge ahead. We cannot scat around the
issues and speak in generalities, and we cannot pretend that we do not know
what brought us to this point. Sooner or later when this discussion
matures, we shall find out that we must deal with the destructive forces
within the opposition before we can ever take a step ahead. I hope we would
not revert to our old tricks of muddying the waters to avoid calling a spade
just what it is. Let's continue with this very important venture of forming
our future.

Chi Jaama

Joe
