Afang Kantei Revisited
By Baba Galleh Jallow

Afang Kangtei Tulubay sat back, a proud beam on his blue cheeks. Any time
now, the security guard would arrive and he would start working on his mega
plan to deal with those impudent blokes. Already, he had thought out a name
for the operation. It was going to be called Operation Cyber Smart, which
would not only hear, but would also see each and every single word uttered
by those shameless cowards who called themselves brave.
Hai Hakat! Afang Kangtei angrily thought. The mere idea of all those petty
fools calling themselves wise and saying no to him! On the very grounds of
his own Huffhaff Enterprises! His own personal Huffhaff Enterprise given to
him by the Almighty God after he had sacrificed his life to establish it!
Jealous puny little things! Hiding behind the security of their stinking
hide-outs and daring to call him names! How so rotten the very world had
gone! How spoilt the golden times! Afang Kangtei suddenly wept and loudly
wailed and banged his head against the floor, on which he was now sprawling.
Even while he moaned and groaned and madly bit and clawed the concrete
tiles, Afang Kangtei remembered that he had called the security. Where on
earth was the ungrateful bloke? Ha! He had also joined the rank of the
betrayers, the mortal enemies who were fighting tooth, nail and claw to
bring him down. Ha!
In a renewed fit of blue rage, Afang Kangtei sprang from the floor and madly
rushed at the door which he hit with the furious force of an angry bull. The
loud impact sent him flying back and smashing into his center table. He
loudly cried and called his mother, feeling a sharp pain in his ribs. He put
his hands on his head and loudly wailed.
Just then, the door opened and Yapat, his faithful driver, came rushing in.
The ever-faithful Yapat had heard the loud bang and crash and had rushed in
to see what was wrong. He now helped his angry boss up and half carried him
down the stairs and into the waiting pajero. Now he remembered that in his
blue rage earlier in the day, he had sacked all his security guards,
accusing them of being in league with his enemies. Basically every other
month, Afang Kangtei sacked a batch of security guards and employed a new
batch, as part of what he proudly called his fool-proof security system.
As soon as Yapat jumped into the driver’s seat, Afang Kangtei told him where
to go. It was three hundred kilometers to the village of Fookunda and the
dreaded forest of the angry spirits, where Jalang Kutubu, the most potent of
all the oracles, red in tooth and claw, had his dreaded shrine. There he
would set his dangerous Operation Cyber Smart going. There he would pay
anything to have all his enemies wiped off the face of the earth. There, he
would show them that in this world, money and power, and only money and
power, talks. Drive faster, Yapat, he growled.
