The flag bearer issue notwithstanding, NADD has created the basis upon which
a genuine transformation of the political realities can be pursued.

For the first time, political parties of different ideologies have
decided to come together, to do fundamentally what nation building requires: to
consciously and deliberately shape the outcome of our political activities; to
build the institutions and structures that will safeguard the liberties and
prosperity of the people; and to create a democractic framework that gives
back ownership of our national sovereignty to the people.

This is the first time also that an attempt is being made collectively
to break from the past. But the revolutionary content in this attempt is
making it to face stiff challenges. Those who are not sure what this venture can
unleash doesn't even want to take the risk. Anything that has the potency to
change the status quo must be resisted, marginalised and doomed to failure. In
the final analysis it will be back to business as usual. To struggle for
change just for the sake of change. The same people running the show all over
again. All the politicians from the first republic are resurrected, and poised
to take over from where they left off.

This election will be the moment of truth for the Gambian people. They
can chose to elect people who can bring genuine change, or elect people who
will continue to do business as usual. History will be the judge.
